Galeria Gwiezdna in Legnica, owned by Mercus Logistyka, is undergoing an intensive commercialization process and redefining its function. Soon, Legnica will gain a retail facility capable of competing with other shopping centres in the city…
Previously associated mainly with the furniture industry, the centre is now increasingly focusing on retail, services, and gastronomy, responding to changing consumer needs.
A symbolic example of this transformation is the decision to change the function of the “Oberża Piastowska” restaurant, one of four à la carte restaurants operated by Lubinpex.
The restaurant, located next to the shopping centre, is ultimately closing its doors. An Xtreme Fitness fitness club will be established in its place (according to unofficial information, this is currently being considered – editor’s note). According to documentation submitted to the Legnica City Hall, the investment includes reconstruction of the facility, modernization of the external parking area, and demolition of elements of small-scale architecture.
There is no doubt that the implementation of this project would bring significant benefits to local residents – it is not only an investment in infrastructure, but above all in a healthy and active lifestyle, which in the long term will improve comfort and quality of everyday life.
We also have good news for food lovers. “Oberża” is disappearing, but the high-quality food prepared by Lubinpex chefs is not. According to PHU Lubinpex, a second modern buffet in Legnica – after the one at the City Hall – will be opened in the centre’s passage, offering a selection of everyday meals.
With the arrival of new tenants from both the services and retail sectors, Galeria Gwiezdna is increasingly transforming into a multifunctional centre for local services and social activities, rather than simply a retail space.
This process reflects a broader market trend – shopping centres and retail arcades are increasingly diversifying their offerings, becoming places where customers can not only shop, but also have a meal, enjoy recreational services, or spend time with their families.
Thanks to these changes, Galeria Gwiezdna has the potential to attract new customers and strengthen its position among residents of Legnica and the surrounding region.
A Brief History
It is worth recalling that Galeria Gwiezdna was originally opened in Legnica as a Department Store in 1998, offering customers food and industrial products. In 2006, its concept was changed, and the Department Store became an Interior Design Gallery, offering furniture and interior furnishing products across an expanded facility.
The next expansion took place in 2011 – from that point onwards, it became Galeria Gwiezdna, with further increased floor space, including external tenants from the interior design sector (Rol Den, Eurofirany), as well as catering services and services related to the design of kitchen furniture and wardrobes.
In 2001, following the acquisition of shares in Lubinpex, the concept of locating the Oberża Restaurant and SCM together emerged, in line with the Group’s development strategy at the time. This market is constantly undergoing dynamic changes driven by global trends in retail… Companies such as MERCUS, keeping their finger on the pulse, simply move with the times…
Galeria Gwiezdna is growing stronger. By mid-2025, it was already clear that the reconstructed and modernized Galeria Gwiezdna was becoming a significant player in the market of large retail facilities in Legnica. It is also undoubtedly filling a retail gap between the Kopernika and Zakaczawie districts.
